Victory’s Here
The hubbub
The hurry
Wrapper and wreaths
Boxes and bows
Tape and tree skirts
Ugly sweaters and shirts
With reindeer or Santa.
Wide smiles
Playful banter.
Calm reflection
on Christmas day
We look away
From the gifts
And garland
To look afar
And remember
For a moment at least
At the source of our peace
Two years of fear
Sickness and loss
But Victory is here.
He weighed the cost
And came to bear
Our souls’ cross.
Welcome him
He is here
Not there or yonder
Still here
Let your mind ponder
Never leaving
Still abiding
Will you open
Your house
Your world
Your life
For him to steer?
