Just wanted to reach out and touch.
I apologize for my lengthy absense. No excuse is available. Just bad time  management. Been busy about work, house cleaning, etc. I can't say the in-between time was too productive. I hope all is well with you as we rapidly move into the holiday season. This weekend marks the end of October and the time to be grateful-and pig out. LOL. I encourage you to reflect on the blessings and mercies afforded to you and realize how good God is. Be thankful and content. These two traits will keep
you from losing your perspective and possibly your sanity.

Peace to those who may be passing through a valley. May you feel his loving presence about you.
Blessings and best wishes to you.

Praising my way out of the Slump.

If you recall the post about complaining and criticizing; "The foul spirit of negativity." Evidently, I have difficulty keeping that old thing away from me. So, I decided I wanted to rise above and get the victory. The only victory over depression and negativity and worry is praise. He inhabits the praises his people. I found a prayer guide that gives you 31 reasons to praise Him-one for each day of the month. Today is the 27th of August so I looked at the 27th. I had decided I would sing a song that came to mind that had the same theme or attribute. I couldn't think of one off the bat. I reached for my phone thinking that I'd search for one. But I was impressed to make one up.

Here is the recording the scratch copy I wrote down and the sheets that have the praises I mentioned earlier. Happy praising and many days full of victory!

Love you all. God bless

I got your back!

Someone approached us as we were attending an earlier preacher's conference. He told Chris that the Lord wanted him to relay this message: "I've got your back." Chris and I have found ourselves in circumstances that taught us to really trust him and to be content in the present season of our walks with him.

He tells us to be careful for nothing. He told the Israelites that they would live in houses they did not build and eat from vineyards and gardens they did not plant.
Jesus will take of you, but you must trust him with you.
We cannot expect to simply receive the benefits without putting into the relationship.

So, my friend; what have you done for him lately? How much time have you spent on your relationshipwith him.

The Lord has provided for us so may times when it was not requested and least expected. He has had our backs. We hope nothing gets in between us and him.

Keep in touch and trust in him. You can know, as well, that Jesus has your back.

Happy Anniversary

Hey guys and gals. How is your July? Today is a great day. I am kicking back with my hubby of 7 years (as of tomorrow). Our tummies are swelled and happy from eating carne asada. We are watching and laughing at some crazy videos on Youtube. All that matters is that I am spending time with him. Our plans for the night dinner and a movie at home. Someone coined it rather well:"staycation." To my loving husband, Chris, I love you always no matter where we are when we celebrate us. Happy Anniversary babeness.

New Levels, New Devils, New Tests: He is our Rest

I must admit these last few years have proven rather difficult to pass. Looking back, it seems that they were like another level of school Or that I am beginning in a new school. I do feel like I am overwhelmed by my surroundings; all the different classes and lessons are so much more difficult. There are quizes and small lessons everytime I turn around. I never thought standing still could prove so difficult.

One day I am a senior and another day I am a freshman, again.
Another level. I feel like I am really dropping the ball and fouling up. LOL

When we were in prep school we learned to learn. In high school we learned to develop good study habits and back up our conclusions with proof and documentation. In college-undergrad and grad school- we teach ourselves and consult the teacher when we need help.

We have heard all the Bible studies, the favorite scriptures, prayer models, armor of God, tactics the devil uses to wear us down...yet we are still vulnerable. Why?

More About Songwriting

The year is almost half-over; what have you done so far this year? Have your days been filled helping others and lifting them to their potential? Working on that long awaiting project?

I have set out to learn and own the craft of song writing. I have also decided to make it a goal to cut my first CD with a couple covers and some of the original songs that I have composed. Not only that, but I want also to learn the ins and outs of producing a full work of my own with the understanding of microphone placement, DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software, recording and mixing, etc.

This endeavor has begun with the research and much prayer over the songs that I write, because I believe the message is what matters. I will always strive to reach out, through my music and my life, to bless people and show them Jesus and the life they can live if they will surrender and truly let him reign in their hearts.

I have written songs, recorded basic ideas of how they might sound, and shared them in their most raw form. Many songs have been revisited, revised and rerecorded in another raw form (LOL). I never thought that publishing a work would take so much work and patience; but it has required both from me these last 7 to 8 years. I hope that you have taken the time to read some of the last lyrics.

From my research and development process I have come up with a system that seems to be working for me, right now. As the days roll on I am sure that I will both tweak the system and the songs until they are both the way I work most effectively and will reach and minister to the most people; respectively.
The attached worksheets are for the first editing and follow up ideas for your songs, should you decide to use them. They are just ideas that you can use to edit your own material once you write and record your first draft.

The first one is the Worksheet; the other is an outline or checklist as to what I look for in my material. I hope these help. Please let me know if there are problems opening the files.

Best wishes to you in all your endeavors.

God Bless

Your Name

Walking into a conference, we are normally handed a card or sticker where we write our names and then either stick it on our shirts or slide it into a plastic badge sleeve. We then put it where? On our shirt or jacket-close to our heart.
Can I ask you, today, where is your name? Is it really close to your heart. When you speak your name are you pleased or disgusted. Do you feel regret or peace of mind. Can you sleep at  night knowing that you lived a day, impacting people for the good? Or a day of shame, wondering what happened during the last 6 hours at that party? Maybe you are in trouble with the law or lost a job because of illegal or unethical behavior.
The worst or best possession you have is your reputation.
  • Proverbs 22:1"A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold." No matter how bad the situation or the person is. Be polite, courteous and professional. Keep a kind spirit about you. You may need to travel that way again.

  • Romans 14:16 "Let not then your good be evil spoken of." Remember that perception is reality and integrity is your best armor. Take control of your person. Love you and, if need be forgive yourself and others. Remove any motive for mischief. Then do all with a motive of love and respect toward yourself and others. Above all be thankful, always. God Bless.

You Love Me WIP 3

Audio ROUGH Draft

Here it is- an basic idea of how this song is to be played and sung. There are issues as you well know. But I have taken notes as to how I can now improve it. I will also take note of what all I can add to it in the way of instruments and/or effects, vocal notes, etc.

Anyway as I said this is the 1st audio of this song so that I have an idea down and recorded.

Carry Me

I did not expect to finish this song's lyrics and record a demo as quickly as I did. The song title is "Carry Me.
It is about Mary's adventure as the Mother of God. The song depicts some of the questions that she may have asked. If we also read the book of Acts, we will see that she was present and filled with the Holy Ghost as the others that were there waiting. She spoke in tongues as they all did (Acts 2),
What an awesome thought a revelation. The very mother of God, who carried Jesus for 9 months; endured the sorrows and joys of his life and her regeneration by the same God who then filled her with his spirit. Wow!

God bless You

You Love Me- WIP 2

Well, I am excited to say that this song is really coming along-theoretically. I have a lot of ideas written as to how I will finish this song. The lyrics are finalized and an idea of the melody and time signatures is figured out. I still need to do a 1st draft to give myself that audio idea and so I can listen for other additions, instruments, effects, etc.

But first I wanted to jump back into this song's history and show you a verse from the old version. You will see how basic it is. Remember to write without editing first. Whatever comes out write it down. Sleep on it even for a week if needed and then go back and look. Or keep adding ideas as they come to you.

I showed you in an earlier post some of the lines to this song in its newer version.. You can look at this attachment and then go to the new version where the extra work on word and rhyme research and sensory language made a difference. It is cut off a bit. This older version could be just fine if you added a good hook to it. But I felt it needed a little more help. See my comments on the scanned page. You want to avoid cliches and too often quoted lines. They get boring after a while.

You Love Me WIP

Any artist knows that working on their craft can prove rather tedious and sometimes painfully dull. The inspirations are great; as well as the times when we know that we have arrived where we want with the piece we are creating.

Lyrics and working with words in poetry are my specialty. No, I may not have any music in the mainstream, yet; but I am continuously learning and improving on craft and patience in the process.

I have enclosed an example of one of the tools I incorporate in songwriting. I line up the verses side by side to compare the stressed syllables to make sure they match as close as possible in the same places. This helps to ensure the listener can easily follow and even sing along.

Be Quiet!!

No matter what we go through; and no matter how lost we feel and overwhelmed we find ourselves; Jesus is the Rock that is Higher. He goes out of his way to show us every day how much he loves us and wants that sweet communion with us. There is a scripture in Psalms that says, "sing upon your beds." Another says "commune with your hearts upon your beds." I know that the last few days I have been doing some of both. Many of us have battled this messy virus that has been passed around.
There are times the Lord "makes us to lie down."In those times we should just wait and listen and let the Lord talk to us-about ourselves; marinade in his presence and allow him to minister to us.

My husband bought a devotional for me called LISTEN TO THE QUIET by Shauna Hord. We all need to slow down and learn how to be quiet. There is strength and confidence in the quiet.

That'll Preach!!

The First Step in Creative Work is Data Mining/Idea Collecting.

My husband Chris is a preacher by passion, appointment and anointing. He is always listening to other preachers talk, preach, and teach. He is a voracious reader of books, ranging from; the Bible to Chess, to Literature and Politics. We often get together and listen to other speakers teach the Bible, comment on Chess, Music, today's  political issues. Sometimes he will hear a phrase or idea and say, "That'll preach!" If he has his little black book with him, he will jot down the idea. I have a similar system as well with my song writing.

I have a journal. If I cannot get my hands on it, I will write on a napkin, sticky note; whatever. With that phrase or quote I write down the reason for my interest so I am not lost, later, as to the reason for noting it in the first place. An additional note I also picked up: Write down the source as well, so you can go back to it and even refer someone else should they also be interested.

Then  have a place to keep them all. A notebook, file system. Whatever suits your "OCD-ness or lack thereof."

More in the next post...Cross Reference!

Where Do I Start to Create?

Many who have known me for a time; know that I love the Word of God and get strength, wisdom and encouragement from it. Many times this is where my inspiration lies. The Lord may drop some bit into my heart as I am praying, or he wakes me with a thought.

I write these down and stick them in a place together, usually a ring binder with paper and pockets so that I can add to the pile and even sort them according to origin, subject and further use.

For example. I may get a thought from reading a scripture on grace, I write the reference and even write down other parts of scripture or quotes that immediately come to mind, even if don't know chapter and verse. I know this note has a biblical origin, the subject is grace. But I leave it there in the front pocket because I don't know how to use it yet. I may divide my note book into sections. I teach bible studies and have taught Sunday School in the past/ So, I may have a section for Further Studies, I write songs and poetry, I would have another section for songs and poems.

Upon completion of the Course in Songwriting with Pat Pattison from Berkelee College of Music; I have since bought his book Writing Better Lyrics. I have downloaded a copy of a worksheet from the online class syllabus and have used it since to organize my thoughts. This This book will  not only help with songs lyrics, but with all poetry.

There are other times where I may get my inspiration from what someone has said or a phrase read from a book, other publication, etc.

I collect these thoughts and notes. As I compile them I continually review what I already have so I know what I am waiting for and looking to create. The book I mentioned earlier helps with tools to keep your thought processes organized, Another tool is Point of View. Then another is Three Boxes, where you have a starting thought that you write and label as box 1. Then as your idea grows you add a bigger box 2 to further the idea; until you have a cumulative and complete idea in an even larger box 3.

This is best used when you're stuck or "blocked" It always helps to keep those ideas in order. You never know where they may lead. I have found this system to help me. Here is a small section of a new piece I started.

Woven-no seam-the patch-less skies
You make me to dream with open eyes
Colors blend under heat of sunrise
I gaze in wonder undisguised.

How You Love Me (Working Title)
To Speak this to be
Kings of  Galaxies
Tamer of Seas
How you love me
you send songs in the breeze
If I were only one
You'd do it for me.

A New and Scary Idea "WIP Should They See?"

I must admit that this is a learning process for me. I enjoy sharing what I learn, see and hear.. I also enjoy creating stuff, mostly of the literary and/or music arts.
I hope that you  have enjoyed reading up to this point. I hope to include more various types of media to make it more interesting. This will be slow in production since it is something of which is new to me online. But I so would like to share the adventures with you. There is a book I have begun reading that talks about sharing the work in progress. I am one of those people who stayyed away from that idea; believing that the final product was the only thing to be shared. I see now from reality shows on the cooking network, Pinterest and Twitter, people are sharing their processes. So I will do my best to bring some of my works in process to you. I hope that you have enjoyed the last entries. Thank you for stopping by.

How to Alleviate Loneliness

Hey. This is a live video on Facebook. It speaks for itself. I hope it helps.
